How to structure product titles for Google Shopping
Your title is the strongest signal in your feed. Here is how to order the words so you match more of the right searches.
[Publish date]Google Shopping doesn't use keywords the way search ads do. It matches what people type against your product data, and the title carries the most weight. A good title has to work for two readers at once: a shopper scanning a grid of products, and the system deciding which searches you qualify for.
Put the important words first
The title attribute allows up to 150 characters, but shoppers often see only the start of it. Lead with the words people actually search for, and push secondary details to the end.
Use a pattern per category
- Apparel: brand, gender, product type, then colour, size and material.
- Electronics: brand, product line, model, then the key spec.
- Wine: producer, wine name, grape, region, vintage, bottle size.
- Pet: brand, pet type, product type, then flavour and pack size.

Promotional text such as "free shipping" or "sale", words in all caps and keyword stuffing all break Google's editorial requirements and can get items limited. Show discounts with sale_price or Merchant Center promotions instead.
Test changes, don't guess
Roll out new titles through a supplemental feed so you can switch back quickly, and compare impressions and clicks for the same product group before and after the change.
